At the beginning of 2016 I noticed a trend that I thought would never come back. The fanny pack trend. It wasn’t quite like an actual fanny pack and was more of a belted bag that you buckled around your waste, but I knew it wouldn’t take long before actual fanny packs overwhelmed street style blogs. Nearing the middle of 2016 it began, and fanny packs were out in full force. Fast forward to the nearing the end of 2017 and fanny packs are a must have fashion trend! I remember the first time I owned a fanny pack. I was about 4 or 5 and I was sitting in the hallway with my mom and brother, just outside of my bedroom. My dad walked up to us and gave us presents for no special reason; colouring books, felts and neon coloured fanny packs. I remember thinking it was SO cool.
Now you can find the fanny pack in designer collections, on European style blogs and Hypebest type street style usually by SUPREME. When Sabrina and I travelled to Paris in September we couldn’t help but see the fanny pack everywhere. The biggest trend was the leather styles in black and brown. I knew I didn’t want to spend a lot of money on mine and I wanted one to look traditional with no bells and whistles, so I jumped at the chance when I found this faux-leather style for 7 euros in a tiny French convenience store in La Marais.
I’ve been wearing it almost everyday. When I don’t feel like wearing a larger bag, carrying something in my hand or a bag weighing heavily on my shoulders I throw on my fanny pack around my chest and off I go! I’ve paired it with the suit above, my camel coat, rain jacket, literally my whole wardrobe and it instantly elevates my look from classic chic to street.
What do you think of the fanny pack? I get some stares, but I like to think it’s because they’re admiring my fanny pack, hehe. Do you own one?
