My Home: Living Room Updates

As you recall, my home was featured on Home On The Runway a few months ago and since then a few updates have taken place! Just like my clothing, inspiration develops into boredom with my home decor. Naturally, after I feel inspired by a piece it will only take it’s time until I need to replace it or display it in a way that makes it new again.

I have since added the Ikea KALLAX bookcase to my living room. It was a little bit of a struggle for me to find a unit that was the appropriate height for my television. The previous owners of my home had their television mounted to the wall and I had them leave the holes and plugs in-case I decided to do the same.

These holes and plugs were not sophisticated in the least so since I won’t be mounting my tv yet I needed a stand that was high enough to cover them up. A great bonus to the bookcase is that I can display all of my beloved trinkets and books. My literary pages were once stacked high in the corner of my bedroom. I adored the way it looked, but like I mentioned above – I became bored.

I was thinking of changing this beautiful Persian rug that was gifted by my parents to something more muted, perhaps grey or one with a geometric design…but honestly I don’t think I can part with it. It’s just too special!

I would like to add a neon sign above the television. I have a few words in mind but just need to find the best company to create it at the most reasonable price. Any suggestions would be welcomed.

Anytime I merchandise my home I can’t help but think back to my Barbie house that my parents had made for me. It was built from cardboard, paint and the tiles and carpet that were left over from our own home renovations. I played with it everyday. Although “play” is used lightly. I always thought that the other kids who made voices and movements with their Barbies looked ridiculous so I would simply dress them and decorate their home. That was my version of playing. Little did I realize it would be foreshadowing 20 something years later when I became a personal stylist and retailer merchandiser. Oh, life!
