Hello, spring! You’re my favorite season – I’m so glad you’re back! Last week I began chatting about warmer temperatures and what to wear now that we can shed our layers. I touched on mixing bright and muted colours and this week I’m going to chat about lighter layers for spring using blazers.
There is just something about a blazer that makes me feel confident every time I wear one. But I’m not talking about your traditional office blazer, I’m talking about one that’s more sleek, fitted and a little longer past the hips. I wouldn’t consider this a boyfriend blazer as it’s not over-sized and is a more feminine shape. Paired with over-sized denim and a sleek kitten heel, blazers can be a cheeky piece to the look that says fun & cool and not stuffy office wear.
During spring, blazers can replace your coat and will be a great layer for chilly days or when you need to cover up a little up. They can easily take an outfit from drab to fashionable and look great with just about any bottom. When searching for a blazer, keep an eye out for these 3 fit tips and you’ll be a pro on how to buy a blazer:
- Shoulders – Make sure that the shoulder seams hit the corners of your shoulders. This can be tough if you have muscly arms and in that case, get as close as you can. Once you begin going up in size because of this, just ensure that you don’t lose your waist.
- Length – I’m a fan of longer blazers but if you’re on the shorter side, it can swallow your shape. I prefer for my longer blazer to hit at the bottom of my butt.
- Fabric – If the blazer is cut to be a more structured style, make sure that the fabric is stiff enough to hold up the shape.
I snagged this awesome grey blazer and oversized denim (…and 2 more items…) from the latest H&M spring collection over the weekend! They’ll both become staples in my wardrobe for the rest of the year and if I’ve played my cards right, I’ll be wearing them for a few more years. When it comes to shopping for trendy items at fast fashion labels, I choose my items carefully and with the mindset that I’m going to wear them for more than a season. I can’t see myself removing these two items from my closet because they’re just too good but when I do, I’ll be sure to take them to the H&M recycle program.
How will you be wearing blazers for spring? They’re a great item to play with!
