How To Mix Bright & Muted Colours

This week, I’m sharing how to mix bright and muted colours in your outfit. Over the last 10 years I’ve been through phases of colour, black and white exclusively and back to colour. My style shifts as my personality grows and what I’m wearing is really a reflection of who I am in that time. My life right now is feeling pretty bright so I’ve been dressing a little lighter in fabrics and colours. In the past, I’ve stuck to the more muted tones but there is something about the bright pops that are calling my name! May I remind you of the hot pink suit I wore at the end of last year? Epic.

Mixing colours can be a bit of a science. In this week’s outfit I’ve decided to place the focus on the muted colours and not the bright colours. Using this baby blue Calvin Klein blazer, I started to gain my inspiration for a spring themed look. To keep with the shades, I paired it with these Levis jeans (another muted blue) and to pull the white rips of the jeans and even out the tones, I’m wearing a crisp white blouse.

I adore pink and blue together but I didn’t want to create an all over look with the pink Expression mules so instead, I chose a bag that only had a hint of pink but was more on the nude side.

Enter the colour pop! It’s a very slight touch but I chose a sunny yellow nail polish for my hands and feet. It’s a little unexpected when you look at the outfit as a whole but plays a strong roll.

What do you think? How do you mix colours with your look? You can find my look at The Hudson’s Bay!
