I may own a decent amount of clothing but I’m never prepared for the climate. You wouldn’t believe the number of times that I’ve asked Alex “what’s the weather like outside?” to have him tell me “it’s pretty warm” or “it’s super cold” only for me to dress the part and feel the complete opposite! I like to call myself a human heat box however when it’s cold, I’m FREEZING! The cold weather cuts through me like a knife.. does anyone know a great pair of tights to wear underneath jeans???
The girls and I headed to Joffre Lake on the weekend for an impromptu getaway and although the sun held out for us, the freezing temperatures did not. I was worried about the warmth of my outfit because once you walk away from the car you’re a little far from it to hope back in for warmth, but omgosh I was sooo happy that I was wearing my PARAJUMPERS Long Bear jacket. I was literally only wearing a cotton long sleeve underneath (talk about unprepared) and the areas that my jacket covered were the only parts of me that were warm!
This is actually the first time that I’ve owned a proper winter jacket. My other “winter” jackets are made best for the fall season as they’re not as padded as you would like for colder temps. Sometimes you just don’t want to layer your clothes underneath your jacket, you know?
If you’re looking for a winter jacket yourself, look for one that’s more utilitarian than one that’s just nice to look at. You can find some jackets that have everything you’re looking for. If I don’t want to have the fur around my hood, I can remove it and if I don’t want the hood at all I can also remove it.
The sides of the jacket can be zipped about a foot in length to leave room for my hips so it’s not super uncomfortable and I can walk without feeling like a swaddled baby. But, one of my favorite features of this winter jacket is the sleeves. There is an elastic layer around the wrists to keep your gloves in place and not let any water or snow get into your sleeves. Winning!
If you’re living in Vancouver, you’ll find this exact style at the Nordstrom downtown on Granville and Georgia.
PARAJUMPERS was born in 2005, when designer Massimo Rossetti found his inspiration in a bar in Anchorage, Alaska. This is where he met a serving member of the 210th Rescue Squadron, an elite U.S. military corps trained for extreme rescues known by the nickname “PARAJUMPERS”. Each item in the collection is inspired by original military designs and even carries over details such as hooks and parachute clips, which embody the true spirit of the brand.
