Let me introduce to you Maneli Nourbaksh, this girl has some serious fashion that I’ve been wanting to share with you all. I met Maneli back in 2009 while I was a Production Manager for Fashionberry Magazine (no longer running). I scouted Maneli as the featured designer and our love for fashion turned into a strong friendship.
Throughout the years this triple threat has gained more than some experience in the industry. Previously as part of the design teams with Lulu Lemon in Vancouver and Alexander McQueen in London. This Persian beauty currently wears more than one hat. First and foremost she is a freelance Designer & Consultant. Her current projects are with So You Think You Can Dance Season 9 Winner, Chehon Wespi-Tschopp’s yet to be launched label and a cycle chic label called Roubaix & Stelvio.
When not working on design projects you can find Maneli at the Hush Magazine headquarters as their Fashion Editor and teaching young hopefuls as an instructor at Blanche MacDonald.
Let’s get into it!
“McQueen dress, this dress looks like it’s only neutrals in this image, when sunlight or bright light hits the silk threads, reds, yellows, and blues shimmer, photography doesn’t do it justice.”
“My wardrobe consists of various styles from minimal chic to vintage finds and I’ll put something together quite last minute usually depending on the weather and my mood of the day. I order my closet by category and colour. Hats, shoes, and jackets take up a big portion of my wardrobe.”
“These are 3 of my most go to shoes, my rocker booties and 2 of my fav flats, the All Saints boots and my new flats by Hudson found at Rowan Sky in Gastown. “
“The two men’s ties I purchased in London for my dad and my brother, not sure how they ended up back in my closet! Haha. One is a McQueen tie the other one is a hand made tie from Saville Row, New & Lingwood. The two bags in the picture are both from Spain. The smaller one is my mother’s from the 80s and the larger one I bought in San Sebastian in 2006. I use the 80s one quite often when I travel, it’s a perfect size for cards and iPhone.”
“The orange shoes are Anne Klein, I bought these last year right before heading to Europe, strictly with the intent of walking for at least 12 hours a day for 3 months. The red slippers, I don’t think I ever worn these but I love them because it reminds me of my Iranian roots. The brown ballet flats are one of the ones I would toss in my bag in case my heels start killing me throughout the day. I don’t recall wearing them often.”
“This is a vintage Iranian bag. Wish I knew what city and decade it’s from – will have to find that out. “
“The Carvela shoes seen here are also one of my favs, bought it in Paris.”
“I love my Vince Camuto suede & gold art deco heels, I turn to these or the Michael Kors pumps the most on a girl’s night out. “
“This bracelet was a gift, a local designer in Montreal made it.”
“Treasure chest, Miu Miu bag, Vince Camuto Shoes.”
“These are decorations and jewellery boxes from Isfahan, Iran, a city known for its artwork. Isfahan’s history stretches beyond 2500 years.”
“Elie Tahari faux fur coat and a necklace purchased from Holt Renfrew
“These are costume illustrations, wearing McQueen blazer & ring.”
“This McQueen ring was a Christmas present from my boss at McQueen.”
“Mom’s vintage 70s blouse, dad’s vintage 70s lime green vest, Aritzia shorts, Topshop hat, Nica London bag, shoes I purchased from Spitalfield market in London.”
“In this image you can see my love for prints, along with a vintage hat from my dad and a hat I purchased about 3 years ago from Top Shop, I wear this one more than the new hats I’ve purchased.”
“I made this hat, inspired by the Dutch exotic dancer and courtesan, Mata Hari, who was executed by France on charges of espionage for Germany during World War I.”
“The yellow & black McQueen scarf is my new spring purchase. The red scarf is from one of the seasons I was at McQueen, Horn’s of Plenty. The navy is from the McQueen Men’s Collection. I use the navy one the most. I bought the chair in Mexico this past March. The Persian carpet was a gift to my mom when I was born.”
